Activity Tables – A must Day Care Furniture

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

A day care center is the child’s place of early education. It is where they get to learn from trained professionals and interact with other children. They are already outside their comfort zones and away from the parents. It is when they are most vulnerable. Yet the advantages of learning and socializing outweighs the concerns when the day care center is able to make good their purpose – preparing kids for primary education. Because of this, day care administrators should make sure that their day care centers are conducive to learning and socialization. They should see to it that these are also durable and safe as children are usually rowdy and carefree.

One of the important furniture in the day care center is the activity table. It is where children spend most of their time. It is also where writing activities are conducted and snacks are served. As such, an activity table should be highest in quality. Design and construction should consider the fact that children behave differently. It should have smooth edges so as not to injure them. Another is a well-polished table surface that enables children to write easily. This also allows easy cleaning of food stuff that is served during breaktime.

Day care administrators should also make sure that activity tables should be made from durable materials like hard wood and high quality steel components. It should have a non-toxic paint or lacquer finish as these do not endanger the health of the children. Lastly, the table’s height should be taken into consideration the children’s height. It should not be heavy so as not to be burdensome in moving it around.

Rest Mats and Cots

When we hear rest mats, we are not talking about those that we put on our bed. These are the mats that we let out kids use when they play. You can see many these in Day Care Centers. There, they let the kids rest and take naps on rest mats because it is soft enough that they can actually sleep on it but small and convenient to carry and store.
You should not buy just any rest mat available or the first one that you see. Like any other product that you buy, you need to consider a few things before actually buying it. First you need to look at the floor where you are going to place your mat and then count the children that need to use the mat(s). Knowing these things will help you to decide the size of the mat you are going to buy and the quantity too. You should, of course, know the age of the children who will use them.
There are mats that are quite thin and there are thicker ones also. If you want the kids to be comfortable and not get cold easily, then the thicker mats are right ones for you. It is also advisable that you buy mats that can be easily washed when they get dirty. You should be washing your mats regularly so as to avoid germs from staying there which could in turn go to your kids and make them sick.
